Singapore Literature Festival in New York: Passion and the Art of Fiction

We live in a time of political and environmental crisis when passions run high on all sides. The contemporary novelist must take into account public as well as private emotions and their creative and destructive potential. This imagina- tive task can be complicated when the author is an immigrant, divided between their birthplace and their country of residence. Two writersof the Indian diaspora, Hari Kunzru (White Tears) and Balli Kaur Jaswal (Erotic Stories for Punjabi Widows) read from their latest work and discuss their imaginative relation to passion, vocation, and obsession with postcolonial and transnational literature scholar Tanya Agathocleous. Followed by a reception and book signing Part of the Singapore Literature Festival in New York.
